ASEAN is committed to build a Community by 2015. To realise this goal, a community of enhanced connectivity is essential, because it will contribute towards a more competitive and resilient ASEAN, as it will bring peoples, goods, services and capital closer together. The ASEAN Community is composed of the ASEAN Political-Security Community, ASEAN Economic Community and ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community. Connectivity in ASEAN refers to the physical, institutional and people-to-people linkages. The key elements of ASEAN Connectivity include: (i) Physical connectivity: • Transport • Information and Communications Technology (ICT) • Energy (ii) Institutional connectivity • Trade liberalisation and facilitation • Investment and services liberalisation and facilitation • Mutual recognition agreements/arrangements • Regional transport agreements • Cross-border procedures • Capacity building programmes (iii) People-to-people connectivity • Education and Culture • Tourism. ---Note: Trans-ASEAN Gas Pipeline (TAGP); ASEAN Power Grid (APG); The Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA).
Energy Supply and Infrastructure
Infrastructure development priorities: 
Strategy 7 Prioritise the processes to resolve institutional issues in ASEAN energy infrastructure projects.---(vi) Study the feasibility of extending the TAGP to BIMP-EAGA.---Prioritised Projects for ASEAN Connectivity: Melaka-Pekan Baru Interconnection (IMT-GT: Indonesia) [...] a 600 MW high voltage direct current (HVDC) interconnection between Peninsular Malaysia and Sumatra, Indonesia [...]. West Kalimantan-Sarawak Interconnection (BIMP-EAGA: Indonesia): The project will consist of 120 km high voltage 275kV AC interconnection called the West Kalimantan-Sarawak Interconnection and Bengkayang substation.
Regional integration priorities: 
Strategy 7 Prioritise the processes to resolve institutional issues in ASEAN energy infrastructure projects.---APG: (iv) Implement various bilateral/multilateral interconnection projects and reporting progress to Heads of ASEAN Power Utilities/Authorities (HAPUA) Council and ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Energy (SOME)/ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting (AMEM) (2008 – 2015).
Cooperation in connectivity: 
Physical Connectivity: To develop an integrated and well-functioning intermodal transport, ICT and energy networks in ASEAN and the wider region.---Strategy 7 Prioritise the processes to resolve institutional issues in ASEAN energy infrastructure projects. TAGP: (ii) Adopt common technical standards for design, construction and maintenance of infrastructure.---APG (i) Harmonise legal and regulatory framework for bilateral and cross-border power interconnection and trade (2008 – 2010).
